Link: Command Turned Off On Live Search

29th March 2007
Microsoft Live Search have officially announced that they have disabled the Link: Linkdomain: and Inurl: commands to prevent spammers from drawing too much of Live Search’s resources when trying to mine data from such search cammands.
They have promised to try and bring the functionality back as soon as possible, in a manner that allows legitimate users to get the information but blocks spammers from abusing it.
For now, anyone who tries to run a Link: command on Live Search gets greeted with a blank screen. No error message, no “sorry we’ve turned this functionality off for a while”, nope… just a blank screen. Glad to hear we weren’t the only ones scratching our heads and wondering “what the…..”!
