Speaking at the Mobile Search Conference in London, David Thevenon, Google’s Head Of Wireless Partnerships for EMEA, mentioned that they predict cost per click on mobile will be different from that on desktop Internet search.
The difference in CPC is likely to arise due to differences in search behaviour on mobile versus on desktop. Mobile users typically search for more immediate solutions and with definite aims in mind. Searches for taxis, local services, adult content and entertainment are very popular on mobile, which implies the likelihood that competition and bids for related keywords will be much higher than on desktop Internet search.
